AUCTION - Family Dog Great Highway - Rhythm Dukes - Benefit - 1972 Handbill - Excellent

This truly fascinating handbill up for auction is for a benefit (misspelled in the handbill) concert held at the Family Dog venue on the Great Highway in San Francisco. The bands were the Rhythm Dukes (with Jerry Miller of Moby Grape), Sweet Release, and Driver. The benefit was held to establish a general legal defense fund, primarily because a college student body president was expelled for flying the American flag upside down, a commonly recognized distress signal. The artwork is by Headlines RA. The show date was December 10, circa 1972. Notably, the Family Dog was defunct by 1971. The promoters likely used the name recognition to their advantage or they possibly thought that that was the venue name. This intriguing handbill measures 8 1/2" x 11", approximately. The condition is excellent, with handling and edge tears. Cool and unusual and rare.
