AUCTION - Boston Tea Party - Canned Heat - 1970 Poster - Very Good

Offered for auction is a cool, rare Canned Heat poster from Boston, Massachusetts' fabled nightclub, the Boston Tea Party. Here we have the band playing two shows on December 9, 1970. The trippy Op art design really exemplifies the dawn of a new decade of the design ethos. Posters have a more graphic, geometrical feel and artists work in a more limited palette for emphasis. The gradient effect of the horizontal lines, along with the inverted "Canned Heat", make for a strong sense of symmetry. The artist is indeed Eric Engstrom, who did quite a few BTP posters in 1969 and 1970. The Metropolitan Museum of Art even has his 1969 poster for the Who in their collection. This rather large Boston Tea Party poster measures 17" x 22", approximately. The piece is in Very Good condition, with pinholes in each corner, a piece of tape at the center, lower corner bends, and tape pulls on reverse, resulting in light tackiness in a couple of the tape pulls, as well as handling. The colors look great.
