AUCTION - AOR 2.317 & 2.318 - The Doors - Magic Mountain Festival - 1967 Poster Set - Excellent
This highly unusual pair of concert posters join together to form one big poster. The event was dubbed the Magic Mountain Music Festival, held on Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, CA. The trippy artwork is by Jack Hatfield, who did an amazing job at creating two separate stand-alone posters to merge into one new poster. So very many bands performed on June 10-11, 1967: the Doors, the Seeds, Smokey Robinson, Country Joe, and the Fish, Wilson Pickett, Jefferson Airplane, Hugh Masekela, Moby Grape, and the Byrds, just to name a few. This was a week before the Monterey Pop Festival but is not as well known. The event was a benefit put on by radio station KFRC. This poster is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 227, plates 2.317 and 2.318. This pair of posters have often been broken up, largely due to the higher desirability of the one with the Doors on it. That makes this pair a real find! There is also another poster for this festival by Stanley Mouse. However, the Jack Hatfield duo is a much tougher find, for sure. The left poster measures 14" x 22", while the right is 14 1/2" x 22". Both pieces are in Excellent condition, with a single tiny pinhole in each of eight corners and light handling. A rare pair and a rare opportunity to own what is basically the first two-day big-time music festival. Before Monterey Pop and before Woodstock.
