AUCTION - AOR 2.224 - Grateful Dead - 1967 Poster - Straight Theater - Near Mint Minus

This is an original Grateful Dead poster from September 20 9–30, 1967. Here they are early in their careers performing at the Straight Theater on Haight Street in San Francisco, CA. These shows are important in Grateful Dead history as this was when drummer Mickey Hart joined and they became one of the earliest two drummer bands. Also, the club was fighting the city government for the proper permits to hold a concert. To get around this, they wrote in the area under the photograph "Dance Classes". Instead of the Grateful Dead putting on a "concert", they were teaching you how to dance! Design by C. Braga. This poster is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 201, plate 2.224. The piece measures approximately 14" x 20". The condition is Near Mint Minus, with light handling, mainly in the area that Pigpen is pointing to in the photo above the center. Never put up. Nearly every example we have seen in 30 years has "Dance Classes" written on it.
