AUCTION - AOR 2.192 - Grateful Dead Fan Club - Single Release - Promo Instructions! - 1967 Poster - Good

Offered for auction is an extremely cool piece of Grateful Dead history. Here we have a Mouse/Kelley collaboration for the Grateful Dead fan club's first poster. This gorgeous poster is very well known and many a Deadhead cut off the bottom part, mailed it in, and joined the club! This one is still whole. However, the really super cool thing about this particular Grateful Dead fan club poster is what's on the reverse. We believe this to be instructions to a fan club operative (identified only as "Toots"). Toots is given a stack of the fan club posters and a stack of band photos, to be distributed at record stores on the heels of the Grateful Dead's release of their first single. Toots is told to be sure to write everything down. Toots is also asked to leave as many posters as possible for future sales. These fan club posters were sold for $.50 each at the time. Wholesale. All of these directions were written with love on the reverse of this poster by a guy named Paul. Presumably someone in the fan club hierarchy, our inquiries came up short on Paul's true identity. Really great stuff. One of a kind slice of history from a critical launching point in the career of the Grateful Dead. The poster measures 13 1/8" x 18 7/8", approximately. This truly amazing piece is in Good condition, with tape pulls, tack holes, and a corner reattached with tape at the bottom, tape stains, corner bends, and some handling. Oh, and some writing on the reverse! A one of a kind historical document!
