AUCTION - AOR 1.84 - Muddy Waters - February 1966 - Two-Sided Calendar Handbill - Club 47 Cambridge - Excellent
AUCTION - AOR 1.84 - Muddy Waters - February 1966 - Two-Sided Calendar Handbill - Club 47 Cambridge - Excellent
This two-sided calendar handbill is from Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass. Club 47 was the venue and they had a really great month in February 1966. Muddy Waters began an eight-day run on the 28th, but the rest of the month is stellar as well. John Hammond, Bukka White, Bessie Jones, the Chambers Brothers, Son House, and Eric Von Schmidt all played that month, just to pick some highlights. Throw in a bunch of local talent and Club 47 has live music every night! On the reverse is a Club 47 newsletter and a space to put an address so the calendar could be mailed. This is the same month that Bill Graham and the Family Dog first put on shows in San Francisco, to give you some idea of how early and rare this piece is. A similar, even earlier calendar from Club 47 appears in the Art of Rock book on page 52, plate 1.84. The artwork is by Byron Linardo. This calendar handbill measures 7 1/2" x 14" and is in Excellent condition, with three machine folds, as well as a horizontal fold, a corner bend at the upper left, three small edge tears, and handling. In stupendous shape, especially considering the very soft paper stock.
