Grateful Dead - Phil Lesh & Bill Kreutzmann Signed - 1966 Check - Near Mint

These historic Grateful Dead checks date from the first few months of the band’s residence at 710 Ashbury in the fall of 1966, when they moved from Camp Lagunitas in September of 1966. These checks represent a unique time capsule into the band’s communal life at 710, where they lived for only a year and a half before departing for Marin County in March, 1968. The signatures are of unquestioned authenticity. Each is truly one-of-a-kind.  Amazingly, these large, orange-colored checks have a mushroom logo!
Other than the signatures, the writing on the checks (date, payee, and notes) is primarily in the hand of Florence Nathan, the band’s bookkeeper, who later changed her name to Rosie McGee.
These checks feature the name “The Grateful Dead”, along with “710-A Ashbury Street”, which was the downstairs office of band manager Danny Rifkin, who had been managing 710 Ashbury as a rooming house before maneuvering the existing tenants out to make room for Jerry, Pigpen, Bob, and other members of the  Grateful Dead family. At the same time, Phil and Bill lived on nearby Diamond Street.

Each check has been signed by two authorized signers: the five original band members (Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill, and Pigpen) and the two band managers, Rock Sculley and Danny Rifkin.

This check signed by Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzmann.
