AUCTION - AOR 2.181 - Grateful Dead - Janis Joplin - "Zenefit" - 1966 Handbill - Avalon Ballroom - Excellent
Offered here is an original two-sided concert handbill promoting a legendary benefit performance for the San Francisco Zen Center’s Tassajara mountain retreat, held at the Avalon Ballroom on Sunday, November 13, 1966. This iconic event featured an incredible lineup: the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Featuring a striking, modernist design, this piece is documented in the definitive reference book, The Art of Rock (p. 185, plate 2.181). The handbill measures 8 ½" x 11" and is in excellent condition, with only four small tack holes in the corners. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful and historically significant piece of San Francisco psychedelic art..
