AUCTION - Sky River - 1970 Prospectus Poster - WA State - Excellent

Here's a really unusual, intriguing, and different type of poster up for auction. Here we have a poster calling for a "Sky River Town Meetin''". The organizers of the first two Sky River Festivals came up with quite a radical twist on the festival idea: start a town with the proceeds! At the center of the poster is a section called "Prospectus". This is where this piece ventures into the truly extraordinary. The organizers intend to purchase land for their new model town. Nothing less than a whole new town/world from scratch. To that end, a plethora of bands and workshops were all scheduled from August 28, 1970, to September 8, 1970. Another absolutely unique thing about this festival is that the location wasn't going to be announced until August 27, the day before the whole thing was supposed to kick off! "Listen to Your Radio", it says. The cool, uncredited artwork features a great split-image collage. Selling "Deeds" instead of tickets to create a whole new world was a lofty and ambitious thing to conceive, to be sure. Sadly, it was not to be and the festival never got off the ground. Measuring 17" x 22", the poster is in Excellent condition, with handling throughout.  A really unique piece.
