AUCTION - Psychedelic - Psychedelic Center 1966 Poster - Carlo's Private Club - Condition - Near Mint Minus
Offered here for auction we have a really unusual poster from San Francisco in 1966. This piece was made to promote an after-hours private club, called the Psychedelic Center. At least that's what they called the venue from 2 AM to 6 AM. The rest of the time it was known as Carlos's in the Mission district. The house band had a great name: The Fat Hummingbird and His Back-Up Band. The artwork is psychedelic in an odd way. The piece is done in a quasi-cubist, grey and black, featuring two figures. The artwork is by Bevi Stabler. After hours places typically didn't advertise so much, so their legend is less talked about than the typical music venues in San Francisco. Yet they proliferated all the same. Here is an impeccable reminder that after-hours places had their rightful place in the scene. Gotta do something after the show until the acid wears off, evidently. This very cool piece measures 14 1/8" X 20 1/8" and is in Near Mint Minus condition, with only light handling and a light corner bend at lower left. Very unusual and engaging poster.
