AUCTION - Psychedelic - Haight Ashbury Maverick Number Three - 1967 Underground Newspaper - Excellent
Here we have volume One, Issue Number Three of the San Francisco underground newspaper, the Haight Ashbury Maverick. Right from the front cover, we are treated to full color, wildly psychedelic artwork by Ron Adams, whose work can also be found inside. Intense stuff. This issue is trippy in that the ink bleeds through from page to page throughout. Intentional, or a hippie mishap, the effect is very psychedelic. The back cover is full color as well by Astrester. Inside are the usual wonderful collection of poems, drawings, ads, and articles. This issue has an article extolling the virtues of a bunch of underground papers across the country. Solidarity for the counterculture. The Summer of Love, the Solstice, and all its implications figure prominently as well. If that isn't enough, Bob Schnepf did a full-page ad that is beautifully psychedelic. This issue of the maverick measures 11 1/2 X 15. The newspaper is in excellent condition, with spine wear, some light stains, handling throughout, as well as the fold it was issued with.
