AUCTION - John Lee Hooker - BG-49 - Winterland - 1967 Board Poster - Excellent

This poster up for auction is for a show billed as the "Blues Show of the Year", and it featured two all-time greats. Namely, Jimmy, Reed, and John Lee Hooker. Throw in the Stu Gardner trio at Winterland  Auditorium on February 18, 1967, and you got yourself a show! This poster also promoted a February 17 show in San Jose, California at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. We're not sure of the exact connection, but this bill is also featured on the Bill Graham poster, BG-49. Those shows took place the week before the Winterland show. Bill Graham was doing shows at Winterland by 1966 and this is not the only example of this type of poster we have seen. There is an Otis Redding poster that is very similar, so we believe that there is a possible connection. This extremely rare poster is printed on cardboard stock in purple monochrome, complete with the mandatory list of favorite songs. Classic stuff. The poster measures 12" x 18" and is in excellent condition, with a diagonal bend across the middle, some light stains, some bending in the corners, and handling. Never put up. Looks fantastic and we have never seen another.
