AUCTION - AOR 2.183 - Grateful Dead - Big Brother Janis Joplin - 1967 Handbill - Winterland - Near Mint Minus
AUCTION - AOR 2.183 - Grateful Dead - Big Brother Janis Joplin - 1967 Handbill - Winterland - Near Mint Minus
This is an original concert handbill for the Grateful Dead, featuring performances by Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin. The event, known as "Trip or Freak," was a Halloween party held at Winterland in 1967. The psychedelic design was created collaboratively by three of the most renowned artists of the sixties: Rick Griffin, Stanley Mouse, and Alton Kelley. It's intriguing to think about how many of the approximately 6,000 to 7,000 attendees were on LSD—truly a "Trip or Freak." This handbill is featured in the book "The Art of Rock" on page 188, plate 2.183. It measures 3 3/4" x 7" and is in Near Mint Minus condition, showing light handling, especially on the reverse side.
