AUCTION - Jefferson Airplane - Gunther Kieser - 1968 Poster - Germany - Very Good

This impressive concert poster is for a European appearance by the Jefferson Airplane in Grace Sl, at the RheinHalle. The show took place on September 12th, 1968, when The Airplane were really flying high. Billed as Jefferson Airplane USA Psychedelic Light & Sound Show, the band brought Lightshow pioneer Glenn McKay with them to Europe. The promoters, Lippman + Rau, evidently neglected to add Glenn McKay to the bill on the poster itself, so they taped the credit to the poster after the fact. Lippman and Rau posters are always known to be quite striking, attention-grabbing, subway-type posters, and this one really jumps out at you. The artwork is by Günther Kieser, with a really cool Circus Sideshow motif that would command a lot of attention on a large wall. This poster represents the cultural export of the fall San Francisco psychedelic scene, with music and visuals working their magic together. 

This rather large piece measures 23 1/2" x 33". Condition - Very Good. The piece has multiple folds (probably to fit in a suitcase to bring home), and now lies flat. All four corner tips are missing. There is edge wear and handling as well. This is the only one we have ever had.
