AUCTION - Jazz - John Handy - Berkeley - 1965 Board Poster - Excellent

Here is a scarce treasure of a poster! This is a piece for the John Handy Quintet at the venerable Berkeley venue, The Albatross. The Quintet played there three nights from December 9–11, 1965. Printed on cardboard stock by Tilghman Press, complete with a union bug. The poster, done in brown monochrome, with its old-time, alphanumeric phone number just bursts with that early '60s feel. Plus a great photo of John Handy! Handy seems to be everywhere in 1965. He was booked for a Bill Graham benefit show on December 10 as well as at the Albatross. The Bill Graham show, commonly known as Appeals II, probably put the Quintet on stage early and the Albatross gig came later. A busy band indeed. This rare poster measures 14" x 19" and is in excellent condition, with multiple pin holes and some white paint across the top. Otherwise, a very sharp-looking poster.
