AUCTION - Hells Angels - Pinback Button - 1966 - Near Mint
AUCTION - Hells Angels - Pinback Button - 1966 - Near Mint
This rare pin-back button from late 1966 was created in support of two Hells Angels who found themselves in legal trouble in San Francisco. Hank, also known as Harry Kot, and "Chocolate" George Hendricks were prominent figures in the Hells Angels hierarchy. They were arrested in the Haight-Ashbury district for allowing a girl to ride standing on the back of a motorcycle. This incident led to a parole violation for Hank, while Chocolate George was charged with interfering with the arrest.
The Hells Angels quickly posted bail for George and launched a legal defense campaign for both men, which is where this button comes into play. Produced by the well-known Star Engraving in San Francisco, CA, millions of buttons were made by this company over the years. This union-made pin-back button measures approximately 1.5 inches in diameter and is in Near Mint condition. This is only the second one of these that has been seen.
