AUCTION - Grateful Dead - AOXOMOXOA - Rick Griffin - Fine Art Serigraph - Mint
AUCTION - Grateful Dead - AOXOMOXOA - Rick Griffin - Fine Art Serigraph - Mint
In January 1969, Soundproof Productions took control of the Avalon Ballroom from the Family Dog. Their 1st show featured the Grateful Dead. Rick Griffin had the honor of producing their 1st poster for the event and the rest is history. Rick produced what is one of his finest prints ever, entitled AOXOMOXOA. It had no real meaning other than the fact that it is a palindrome. The poster is featured very prominently in The Art of Rock as plate AOR 2.24. The symbolism found in Griffin's art is legendary. It surely was a stoner's delight in 1969 to gaze at the poster endlessly, finding new images and meaning each time. It is steeped in Far Eastern mysticism and has numerous referencing to birth and sexuality. It's truly a masterwork. The original poster is quite scarce today and costly. In 2023, the Rick Griffin Estate produced a fine art serigraph of the poster using the highest quality inks and cotton rag stock. The result is remarkable & is easily the finest quality printing of both the original print and subsequent reprints. The poster was sold a TRPS in 2023 and was a huge success as it is now sold out. Given that the edition size was only 150 copies, and that the quality was so high, it was an obvious sellout! The poster measures 30” x 24”. It is numbered out of an edition of 150. It has Rick’s printed signature and an attractive embossed, chop mark from the Rick Griffin Estate. The condition is mint. You will be blown away by the quality of this print!
