AUCTION - Delano Farm Workers Strike - 1966 Benefit Poster - Longshoremen's Hall - Excellent

Offered for auction is a piece of history in poster form. California, Labor, Agricultural, Music History. This piece is that rich! Here we have a poster for a dance, held to raise money and awareness for the Delano Farm Workers Strike, which had already been in progress since September, 1965. The event was held at San Francisco's Longshoremen's Hall on February 25, 1966, so the farm workers were five months into a strike and really needed help. For some perspective, this show day is in between both the Bill Graham BG- 1 and BG- 2 and the Family Dog and FD -2. John  Handy, Mother Earth, Sopwith, Camel, and "Other Big Names" were listed to perform. At the very bottom, it says "Labor Donated". This is in Lieu of a Union Bug and it shows solidarity with the struggle of the farm workers on the part of the union printers. The main theme of it all is expressed in the phrase "Blow Your Mind. Dance for Delano". Not only is it an early reference to "blowing your mind", it sits in contrast to the old school, labor struggle art of the rest of the piece. Kind of bridging the Generation Gap, if you will. Especially nice is the placard at the bottom held by a striker, which reads "Huelga". That means Strike in Spanish. Rounding out the composition is the magnificent purple color that dominates the piece. We told you this was a rich piece! Printed on cardboard stock, this poster measures 14" x 22". This important, early and stunning hand-silkscreened poster is in Excellent condition, with small staple holes throughout, mostly in the corners, minor surface wear, and very light corner bending. Looks and presents majestically. This is the only one we have ever seen, and we are thrilled to offer it for auction. Blow your mind for Delano.
