AUCTION - Avant-Garde Ballet - Bill Couser - Psychedelic Experience No,2 - 1966 Poster - San Francisco - Very Good

Here is an extremely unusual poster from 1966. This is for a ballet and two other works by avant-garde choreographer Bill Couser. The son of a dancer, Couser grew up copying his mother, and was thus self taught. The ballet, dubbed "Psychedelic Experience No. 2" took place at the Intersection on Ellis Street in San Francisco, California. We've sold thousands of psychedelic concert posters, plenty of psychedelic light show posters, but this is the very first and only psychedelic ballet poster to come through the door! Couser is mostly known for his work in Southern California, but his time in SF was very productive, and the troupe did get noticed in local print media at the time. LSD was mere months away from being banned, so this is kind of the peak time for psychedelic art, in all its forms. The poster measures 12 1/4" X 19 7/16" and is in Very Good condition, with a corner missing at upper right, pinholes and pinhole tears in the other corners and tape stains on the front and reverse. Again, we have never seen this piece before.
