AUCTION - AOR 3.77 - Grateful Dead - Kaleidoscope Grand Opening - 1967 Promo Button - Excellent
AUCTION - AOR 3.77 - Grateful Dead - Kaleidoscope Grand Opening - 1967 Promo Button - Excellent
This is a very cool and rare original promotional button from a short-lived club in the Los Angeles area called the Kaleidoscope. The grand opening took place from April 14-16, 1967, and featured performances by the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and local favorites Canned Heat. As part of the promotional efforts for this new club, these pinback buttons were given out for free. Very few of these buttons still exist today. The poster associated with this button is featured in the "Art of Rock" book on page 279, plate 3.77. It includes the same phrase around the edge as the poster: "The Kaleidoscope is Turning On." This is an obscure item related to the Grateful Dead from 1967. The button measures 2.5 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition, with some edge wear and a tiny smudge just to the right at the bottom center.
