AUCTION - AOR 2.54 - BG-3 - Jefferson Airplane - Butterfield Blues - 1966 Button - Fillmore Auditorium - Near Mint

This is a unique piece of ephemera: a promotional pinback button created to advertise a specific concert. Bill Graham was just beginning his career in concert promotion, and this button was part of only his third weekend of shows. Titled "A Blues Rock Bash," the concert featured Jefferson Airplane and the Butterfield Blues Band. The event took place from April 15 to 17, 1966. While two nights were held at the Fillmore Auditorium, the other night, Saturday, April 16, took place across the bay at Harmon Gym on the U.C. Berkeley campus in Berkeley, California. In addition to a poster and a handbill, this button was produced to ensure everyone knew about the show. These buttons were handed out the week before the event, and only a few still exist today. It is showcased in the book "The Art of Rock" on page 147, plate 2.54. The button measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter and is in near mint condition. This is a must-have for any complete Fillmore collection.
