AUCTION - AOR 2.174 - Grateful Dead - Mouse Signed - 1968 Poster - Carousel Ballroom - Very Good
Grateful Dead 1968 "Be Mine" Valentine's Day Dance S.F. concert poster. An original small-ish paper advertising poster for the Grateful Dead and Country Joe & the Fish playing at San Francisco's Carousel Ballroom on Wednesday night, February 14, 1968 - Valentine's Day. This was the official opening of the Carousel, as run by the Dead, Big Brother, Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver, which proved to be a short-term lark and business flop. The Dead dedicated their second set to Merry Prankster Neal Cassady, who had passed away 10 days earlier. The poster is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 182, plate 2.174. The design is by Stanley Mouse, and he has signed this poster in gold ink! In Very Good condition, with multiple handling bends, wrinkles, creases, small pieces missing from the bottom corners and some writing on the back. A nice example of an early Grateful Dead poster.
