AUCTION - AOR 2.172 - Grateful Dead - "Sore Thumb" - Alton Kelley - 1968 Poster - Carousel Ballroom - Near Mint Minus
We are pleased to offer this original, first-printing concert poster featuring the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane at San Francisco’s Carousel Ballroom (later the Fillmore West) from March 15–17, 1968. Created by the legendary Alton Kelley, this iconic design depicts a bandaged hitchhiker’s thumb, a clever piece of imagery that earned the poster its enduring "Sore Thumb" nickname. This historic artifact is documented in the Art of Rock book on page 182, plate 2.172, making it an essential acquisition for any serious Grateful Dead or Carousel Ballroom collection. Measuring 14" x 20", the piece is in Near Mint Minus condition, displaying only light horizontal bends visible on the reverse; the front remains remarkably clean and vibrant.
