AUCTION - AOR 2.16 - Grateful Dead - 1966 Handbill - Avalon Ballroom - Very Good
AUCTION - AOR 2.16 - Grateful Dead - 1966 Handbill - Avalon Ballroom - Very Good
Here is a rare, original handbill for a Grateful Dead concert featuring poet Michael McClure, along with the bands The Wildflower and The Outfit. The event was produced by the Straight Theater and took place at the Avalon Ballroom on May 19, 1966. This marked the Grateful Dead's first appearance at the Avalon Ballroom. The design was created by Jacob and is featured in the "Art of Rock" book on page 106, plate 2.16.
The handbill measures 8.5" x 11" and is in very good condition. It was printed on very thin paper stock. There is a ½-inch tear on the left edge, along with an ink scribble in the same area. Additionally, there is a small drawing on the reverse side that is visible through the paper, and there are light tape pulls. Handbills like this one are very rare.
