AUCTION - AOR 2.220 - Grateful Dead - Big Brother Janis Joplin - 1967 Grand Opening Poster - Straight Theater - Rough
This is an original concert poster advertising an exciting opening weekend for the Straight Theater on Haight Street in San Francisco, CA, from Friday, July 21, to Sunday, July 23, 1967, right in the midst of the Summer of Love. The poster features imaginative graphics in red, purple, and green, created by artist Frank Melton.
During the band's performance on Sunday, The Grateful Dead were joined on stage by Merry Prankster Neal Cassady, who rapped along while the band jammed. This rare poster was part of the collection of the late John Cipollina, the guitarist for Quicksilver Messenger Service. The poster measures 19" x 25" and is in rough condition, with tears, stains, and brittle paper. It had been tacked to the wall of the Cipollina house since 1967!
