AUCTION - AOR 2.244 - Grateful Dead - 1966 Silkscreen Poster - Golden Gate Park - Very Good

This incredibly rare, simply gorgeous hand-silkscreened poster is for a Free Fair put on by the Artist Liberation Front (ALF) in San Francisco, CA. Held in the Panhandle of Golden Gate Park on October 15th–16, 1966, from 10 AM to 10 PM. The beautifully simple balloon design really puts a smile on your face. "Happiness!" is all we're told about the goings-on at the Free Fair, but it's a safe bet they had balloons. We do know for sure that the Grateful Dead did play on Sunday the 16th, which, for those of you in the know, is Bobby "Ace" Weir's birthday! Also a scant ten days after LSD became federally illegal. A joyous poster, for sure, which was printed in a numbered signed edition, of which this is number 74. The few that we have seen have all had numbers below 100. The poster is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 206, plate 2.244. The piece measures 14/2 inches by 18". This lovely, hand-silkscreened Artist Liberation Front poster is in Very Good condition, with toning, edge wear, handling, corner bends, pinholes in each corner, and one near the top left of the balloon, and a few small tears near the bottom center. An astonishingly rare poster that is so very elegant and evocative of its time.

Here is a video of the poster for for viwing pleasure.
