AUCTION - AOR 2.32 - SF Mime Troupe - 1965 Cardboard Poster - Sausalito - Excellent

This very rare poster is for the San Francisco Mime Troupe's traveling 1965 show "A Minstrel Show or Civil Rights in a Cracker Barrel''. This poster is for their month-long engagement at the Golden Gate Theater in Sausalito, CA. Just across the bridge in Marin County. The Mime Troupe often traveled beyond the idyllic confines of San Francisco and reached out to the hinterland. They played in Sausalito four nights a week from July 1 to July 25, 1965. All the performances were benefits for S. N. C. C. (Pronounced Snick) and M. F. D. P. (Pronounced anyway you can). These two organizations were the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, respectively.

These shows were produced by none other than fledgling promoter Bill Graham, who cut his teeth putting on gigs for the Mime Troupe. This is months before his first Fillmore show. The poster is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 112, plate 2.32 (although the venue is different). This truly seminal poster measures 15" x 20" and is in Excellent condition. There is a tack hole in each corner, handling, and a little toning. The piece has "Adult Entertainment" written on it in black marker to alleviate local pressures and concerns. Super rare. Super seminal!
