A significant artifact from the 1960s, this is an original, first print of the world-famous poster advertising the "Gathering of the Tribes For A Human Be-In." This free event took place on the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park on January 14, 1967. Some believe it was a major catalyst for the Summer of Love. Approximately 20,000 people attended, listening to bands like the Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service, as well as renowned poets such as Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, and Timothy Leary, all for free in a beautiful park. Word spread through phone calls, letters, and postcards, and the event received media coverage. The Summer of Love followed shortly after. Designed by Stanley Mouse and Michael Bowen. Measures 14 1/8" X 20". Condition: Very Good - Pinholes in all four corners, bends, and edge wear and toning. The lower right corner tip is missing, large tear in the upper left corner, edge tear at the top center, tape stains on the reverse, and handling wear.
