AUCTION - Sons of Champlin - 1968 Board Poster - The Bank - Good
AUCTION - Sons of Champlin - 1968 Board Poster - The Bank - Good
This original concert poster is from The Bank, located in Torrance, CA. The performers were Pacific Gas and Electric, the Sons of Champlin, Illinois Speed Press, and Freedom Highway. They all played the weekend of August 9–11, 1968, and the Sunday show started at 3 PM! Excellent line drawing of a bird, done by Bob Wilson, who, in lieu of a signature, put a side view of a buffalo on each poster. He did marvelous work, several examples of which are in the Art of Rock book. This poster is one of the earliest in a group of posters from the Bank. The venue lasted from August until December of 1968 when it finally gave in to police harassment. In fact, their later pieces encouraged folks to "Come Clean". Printed on cardboard stock, the piece measures 14" x 20", approximately. The poster is in Good condition, with staple holes throughout, the upper left corner is missing, three light corner bends, surface abrasions on the reverse, and some light staining at the bottom. All that said, the piece presents very well with nice bright colors.
