AUCTION - Detroit - John Sinclair Eldridge Cleaver People's Buck Barter Bill - Near Mint
This unusual item up for auction is a Peoples Buck, denomination one dollar. "Power to the People", it says over a drawing of Che Guevara. Black Panther Party leader Eldridge Cleaver is listed as treasurer, while White Panther founder John Sinclair is secretary of the treasury. "Not legal tender (yet)", it says on the bill. These People's Bucks were a way to raise needed money for the cause. We think, but we're not completely sure, that this bill is like another barter type alternative currency is created to keep money in local hands. This idea has been done by schools, municipalities, and other entities over the years. This is the radical late Sixties version. This People's Buck measures 3" X 6' and is in Near Mint condition. You may notice the bill has been hand cut and therefore the image is a little off-center. A nice artifact
