AUCTION - AOR 2.308 - Big Brother Janis Joplin - 1967 Poster - The Ark - Excellent
Here's a scarce, much sought after concert poster from the remarkable North Bay venue, The Ark. Just over the Golden Gate Bridge, the Ark was a converted paddleboat, which, once retired, became the Ark, a legendary venue known for its popularity with the bands themselves, who seem to have a great affinity for the place. The Grateful Dead even practiced there on occasional afternoons. This poster is for a show featuring Big Brother and the Holding Company, with Janis Joplin, and the Human beings opening the show. The show date was February 23, 1967. The gig was a benefit for the Valley Peace Center and the pleasantly trippy artwork is by Brighton Goodfellow. The promoters were the unusually named LoveScream Presents. Featured in the Art of Rock book on page 222, plate 2.308. Wonderful bright blue and yellow with a nice orange to balance it all out. This cool original poster from the Ark measures 14 1/16" x 19 3/4". In Excellent condition, with staple holes in each corner, some waviness at the top, and a corner bend at the lower right. The colors remain very bright in this rare, original piece from an obscure North Bay club, with a much smaller print run than, say, the Fillmore or the Avalon.
