AUCTION - AOR 2.237 - Grateful Dead - 1968 Poster - Palace of Fine Arts Festival - Good

Here we have a rare foil poster for the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts Festival. Held as a benefit for the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic and the Atheneum Foundation, the Festival dates were August 30–31 and September 1-2, 1968. Four days at the simply gorgeous Palace of Fine Arts, which was built originally for the Pan–Pacific Exposition and lucky enough to survive its original temporary status and still houses a theater to this day. The Grateful Dead played, along with The San Francisco Mime Troupe, Kaleidoscope, and tons of other stuff going on for four days! Impressive artwork is by San Andreas Fault. Printed on foil, the piece features amazing photography of the palace itself. Three handbills associated with this festival are pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 205, plates 2.237–2.239. The poster measures 13 9/16" x 23 3/4" and it's in Good condition. The piece has corner tears due to having been removed from a wall in 1968 and has the associated holes and missing paper in each corner, handling throughout a set of staple holes on each side, and surface wear. Would still present well in a frame. A very rare Grateful Dead piece with a small print run.
