AUCTION - AOR 2.186 - Grateful Dead - 1966 Program - Pescadero Bicycle Race - Excellent
Now here's an unusual Grateful Dead and bicycle racing-related item! Here we have a program for the Tour Del Mar, a bicycle race held in preparation for the Olympics in 1968. The race took place in August 1967. Held in San Mateo County, CA., in the town of Pescadero, the race also featured afternoon and evening entertainment. The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Colossal Pomegranate played at the I. D. E. S. Hall in Pescadero. This is super early Grateful Dead: LSD is still legal and their first signal single had just come out in July. Throw in some Playboy Bunnies and you have a real weekend to go with your bicycle race! Moreover, the program is replete with bicycle info from the infancy of the American bike craze. That, and more than a few psychedelic references. Twenty delightful pages, cover to cover. The cover image, in a slightly different form, appears as the handbill in the Art of Rock book on page 186, plate 2.186. Both the handbill and the program are equally rare. This super cool program measures 8 1/2" x 11" and is in Excellent condition. The program has toning and a couple of light stains. A fantastic piece in fantastic shape and the first one we've seen in 30 years. Equally amazing as a bicycle collectible!
