AUCTION - Allen Ginsberg - The Fugs - Signed - Cleveland, OH - 1967 Board Poster - Very Good
Here is an original poster that most people have likely never seen before. This poster was created for a benefit concert supporting legal aid for Cleveland poet D.A. Levy and bookseller James Lowell. Both individuals were arrested six months earlier on obscenity charges related to erotic literature and the promotion of drugs, specifically marijuana. The concert took place on May 14, 1967, at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio. This poster was obtained immediately after the event and has been displayed by the owner for many years.
Twenty-four years later, Allen Ginsberg returned to Cleveland for a poetry reading on October 11, 1991. He inscribed the poster with the following message: "This was a fine benefit for Jim Lowell's Asphodel Book Shop & D.A. Levy poetry reading." This could potentially be a unique item—possibly the only one in existence. The poster measures 17 1/6" x 22 1/8".
Condition: Very Good. The poster has some toning, a tape pull on Ginsberg's forehead, handling wear, minor stains, and tape stains on the reverse. Since this is a one-of-a-kind item, the condition must be accepted as is, as you will likely never encounter another one, especially one that is signed by Ginsberg.
