BG-176 - ORIGINAL POSTER ART - Grateful Dead - Randy Tuten - 1969 Ink & Collage - Fillmore West - Excellent
This one is for the Deadheads out there. The Grateful Dead used the Fillmore and Fillmore West as their home base from 1966-1971. They are featured on over thirty of the posters in the BG series. Yet, we have seen only a handful (one hand not two) of pieces of BG original art for Dead shows over the decades. That is how rare this gorgeous piece of Randy Tuten art is.
This engaging and whimsical piece really shines as original art and is in excellent condition. The central image of the baby holding the bottle is a collage with the photostat image augmented by Randy with paste-on art for the bottle label. The Dead lettering is on the poster board as is the lettering below the image. The Jr Walker and Glass Family lettering, hand drawn by Randy has been added on top of the stat. The art measures 14" x 21" and it's matted in a black border.
For us, this art displays far better than the poster and evokes the playful and adventurous spirit of the Dead in the late 1960s.
