AUCTION - Jimi Hendrix - Last Performance - 1970 Variant Poster - Germany - Near Mint

This music festival poster from Germany is really astounding. The festival was held on an island called Fehmarn off the coast of Germany. This poster is from the 1970 three-day festival, held September 4–6. The truly special thing about the festival, however, was that it was Jimi Hendrix's last live performance on planet Earth. He had a gargantuan amount of company at the festival: sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After, Ginger Baker's Airforce, Canned Heat, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Peter Green, Joan Baez, Rod Stewart, and Faces. Plus a whole schedule of Free Jazz, a very early appearance of Soft Machine, and John Mayall. And on and on, matching the length of the poster. This poster with its somewhat sci-fi plant sort of taking over is the black and white variant of a full-color version. Lots of leaves and tendrils and fronds, with a wavy sky above. More than a few Woodstock folks were invited to this gig, it should be noted, and the promoters intended it that way as a response to Woodstock and the Isle of Wight's successes. A magnificent festival where one of the pantheons, Jimi Hendrix, played his final live performance. This thin stock, rather long and narrow poster measures 11 5/16" x 32 1/8" and is in Near Mint condition, with only a bit of handling, owing to its size.
