AUCTION - AOR Pg.14(R) - Peace Rock - Big Brother - Fillmore Auditorium - 1966 Handbill - Good

AUCTION - AOR Pg.14(R) - Peace Rock - Big Brother - Fillmore Auditorium - 1966 Handbill - Good

This incredibly rare handbill is for a benefit concert held at the Fillmore Auditorium on February 12, 1966. This is a very early show. Contextually, the first Bill Graham show (BG 1) at the Fillmore was a week earlier and the first Family Dog show (FD1) was held a week later. This is the version of the handbill with the revised lineup. The original lineup included the Grateful Dead (off to an LA acid test), and the Mystery Trend (victims of instrument theft), are left off this bill, which included the Great Society (with Grace Slick), Quicksilver Messenger Service, Our Lost Souls, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. Billed as "Peace Rock", the show benefited Democratic congressional candidates and the Vietnam Study Group. The handbill is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 14 (R). Although hastily put together out of necessity, the piece is humorous and timely, with a great photo of LBJ. This very rare 1966 handbill measures 8 1/2" x 10 7/8". The condition is good, with a single tack hole at the center top and a piece of paper (similar to a dime) missing at the top right. The handbill has been folded in quarters and has handling. so exceedingly rare and early.
