AUCTION - AOR 2.54 - BG-3 - Jefferson Airplane - 1966 Promo Button - Near Mint

Here we have a very early, extremely cool, and quite scarce promotional button from Bill Graham Presents. This is a promotional piece for BG-3 in the Bill Graham poster series. That show featured the Butterfield Blues Band with the Jefferson Airplane opening on April 16, 1966. The dance concert was held at Harmon Gym on the University of California at Berkeley campus. This super early button in yellow is featured in the Art of Rock book on Page 147, Plate 2.54. Bill Graham called the show a " Rock/Blues Bash" and this was his first foray with Bill Grant Presents outside San Francisco. Only a handful of shows had promotional buttons made in the early days of BGP. Later, in the 80s, they made a bit of a comeback. Ones from the 60s are quite hard to come by, especially in this great shape! The button, made by the venerable San Francisco Star Engraving Co, (and a union shop), measures 2 1/4" in diameter and is in fabulous Near Mint condition.
