AUCTION - Lot of Two 1960s Magazines - Psychedelic Posters - Very Good/Excellent
This exceptional lot of two magazines will make a worthwhile addition to virtually any poster collection. Here we have two magazines: the first one is called California Living and was a Sunday supplement for the San Francisco Examiner. Published on November 20, 1966. Featuring a fantastic cover photo of Wes Wilson dubbed “Top Dog of the Poster Rage“. Inside is a great article about the Family dog, its philosophy, and the artists who make that philosophy into visual art. Cool photos, too. The second magazine in the lot is Life Magazine from September 1, 1967. The cover features a bunch of both music and movie posters under the heading: The Big Poster Hang-Up – Walls and Walls of Expendable Art. That may sound ironic today, with the value of these “expendable“ posters having consistently risen over time. However, at the time, a huge part of the attraction was the utter affordability of posters. Some venues even gave them away! The article is lengthy, in-depth, and highly informative. The California Living Magazine measures 11” x 13”, approximately, while the Life Magazine measures 10 1/2” x 13 1/2”, approximately. The Life Magazine is in Very Good condition, with handling, spine wear, and staining on the front cover. The California Living Magazine is in Excellent condition, with some toning from being made of newsprint, handling, and a little bit of surface wear on the front cover. An informed addition to any poster collection.
