Offered for auction is a gorgeous, scarce Rick Griffin poster. This is FD 79 in the Family Dog Series and it's a doozy. Also known as FDD–1 ("D" for Denver). Joyful and uplifting, Rick lets us know that "Everybody is Good at Heart". Under that banner, we are treated to an absolute smorgasbord of pop iconography, mixed with quite a few previous Family Dog poster references. A lot of them, really. So enjoyable and masterfully done as only Rick Griffin can pull off. Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin and Blue Cheer played on September 8–9, 1967. The Family Dog were on a roll and landing in Denver! This proved to be a short-lived experiment, however, when a scant few months later local opposition made it too difficult to maintain a presence in the Rocky Mountains. This Rick Griffin Family Dog poster measures 19 7/8" x 28", approximately. In Excellent condition, with handling, a corner bend at the bottom right and tape on the reverse. No tack holes. Beautiful, bright colors on a Rick Griffin masterpiece.
