AUCTION - Festival Growing Things - Janis Joplin Quicksilver - 1967 Poster - Mt. Tam - Excellent
This scarce, psychedelic original poster is for the Festival of Growing Things. This two-day festival was held July 1-2, 1967 at the Mount Tamalpais Outdoor Theater, an amazing venue in Marin county just north of San Francisco, CA. The lineup is stellar; Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Miller Blues Band (Steve Miller's early band name), Blue Cheer, Hugh Masekela plus more on Saturday. Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin, Country Joe and the Fish, The Charlatans, and others regaled the crowd on Sunday. The artwork is by the wonderfully named Gut, most famous for his work for the Hell's Angels and the Acid Test Graduation poster. Gut did a lot of great work, and this piece is no exception. And, because it was in fact billed as the Festival of Growing Things, "Free Seeds" are also featured! This lovely piece measures 14" x 18 1/2", approximately. The poster is in Excellent condition, with handling throughout, two pin holes at the top corners, some bending, including at the top right corner, and a little stain at the center-left at the bottom of the Saturday lineup. A rare Gut poster from 1967!
