AUCTION - Grateful Dead - Sky River Festival - 1968 Backstage Pinback - Near Mint Minus

This super cool Artist Pinback is from the first Sky River Festival, held in the greater Seattle area. Richard Pryor, Big Mama Mae Thornton, Chicago, Dick Gregory, and the Grateful Dead all performed on Labor Day weekend, 1968. The Dead played unannounced and did a scorching set, opening with Dark Star! This badge granted access pretty much anywhere and would have been the ideal backstage pass to see the bands. The Festival was organized by a pretty large group of Seattle folks, all deeply committed to their various countercultural causes, revolving around the local underground newspaper, the Helix. They called the festival a "New America Community" and over 20,000 people showed up to see Richard Pryor the Grateful Dead and so many more. The luckiest among them had one of these nifty badges! This one survived, and it measures 2 1/8 ' in diameter, approximately. This backstage Artist Pass is in Near Mint Minus condition, with only the merest amount of wear. The badge has "1968" written in marker on the reverse.
