AUCTION - AOR 2.26 - Grateful Dead Gram Parsons - 1969 Variant Poster - Avalon Ballroom - Near Mint Minus

This rare blue version of the Grateful Dead and the Flying Burrito Brothers (with Gram Parsons) from the Avalon Ballroom is really quite rare. The poster image can be found in the Art of Rock book on page 110, plate 2.26. Truly bizarre psychedelic artwork is uncredited. The venue was the Avalon Ballroom, no longer home to the Family Dog by this time. Show dates were April 4–6, 1969 and the promoters were an outfit called Soundproof Productions. They only did a handful of posters, but a lot of very cool ones came out of it. Multiple artists doing multiple posters for the same show, variants being printed, etc.

This blue variant is the hardest to come by and the most desirable. Measuring 13 3/16" x 16 3/16", this original concert poster is in Near Mint Minus condition, with a corner bend at the lower left and a little bit of handling. The piece is a little off register which is a common occurrence in many of these posters. Grateful Dead and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Quite the night out!
