AUCTION - Vulcan Gas - Lot of 20 Texas Handbills - Near Mint to Near Mint Minus/Good

Offered for auction are an astonishing lot of 20 Texas concert handbills. This is quite an array of Texas art here, dating from 1968 to 1971. 16 of these are from the Vulcan Gas Company, including the early VG-15, Vg-16, and VG–22A. The four non-Vulcan Gas shows are a pair of Armadillo World Headquarters handbills, plus one each from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at Arlington. Jim Franklin lent his talents to 12  of these handbills and, as always, did outstanding work. John Shelton did a pair of handbills, while Robert Rush, Jaxon, and Traverso each did one. That leaves three handbills by unknown artists. As an added treat, one of the Jim Franklin handbills has a preliminary drawing on the reverse by Franklin for a future handbill. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a large chunk of Texas history. All at once! A veritable treasure trove of Texas delights. These concert handbills range in size from 5 3/8" X 6 9/16", all the way up to 8 1/2" X 14" and 11" X 13 1/8", for instance. The condition varies. However, 13 of 20 pieces are in Near Mint/Near Mint Minus condition. Additionally, four handbills are essentially Near Mint minus, save for some handling. That leaves the last three, VG-15, is in Excellent condition, with edge toning and some minor surface abrasions along the edge where the show dates are. Next is VG-22A, which is in Good condition, with staple holes in each corner, a corner missing, horizontal and vertical folds, tape after the "capital T" in "String", handling, edge wear, and some light stains. Presents nicely for an early, scarce Vulcan Gas handbill. Finally, we have Jim Franklin's "Box of Noses", which is in Excellent condition, with some staining at the lower left, a chip is missing at the upper right, a small tear at the upper center left edge, and light handling. All in all, this is a phenomenal and extraordinary opportunity to greatly enhance, or even jump-start your Texas collection!
