AUCTION - Political - RFK Benefit Concert - The Byrds - 1968 Handbill - Excellent
Here is a piece of 1960's turbulent political history up for auction. This handbill is for a benefit concert held for presidential candidate, Bobby Kennedy. The event was held at the LA Sports Arena on May 24, 1968. The lineup featured the Byrds as headliners, followed by Sonny and Cher, with Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson and NFL great Roosevelt Grier rounding out the bill. Roosevelt "Rosie" Grier would cement his place in history less than two weeks later when he would subdue Robert Kennedy's assassin. Printed in dark green ink on goldenrod paper, the artwork is by Mortimer and the piece was union printed and has the bug at the bottom right. This historical handbill measures 8 1/2" x 11", approximately. The handbill is in Excellent condition, with handling throughout and a small piece missing from the lower left corner edge.
