AUCTION - Jerry Garcia - 1972 Poster & Handbill - Longshoreman's Hall - Near Mint Minus
AUCTION - Jerry Garcia - 1972 Poster & Handbill - Longshoreman's Hall - Near Mint Minus
On offer for auction is a very early, quite scarce two-piece lot, consisting of a Jerry Garcia concert poster, and the accompanying handbill. High Altitude Traders promoted a benefit show at Longshoreman's Hall in San Francisco. Jerry Garcia played with Merle Saunders and Tom Fogerty (from Creedence Clearwater Revival) in his band on November 8, 1972. Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks, along with the Fletcher brothers & The Unnatural Act rounded out the bill. The poster's uncredited artwork features a bearded man with a rather large earring, subtly washed into the background of the poster. in a salmon color. The handbill is printed on goldenrod paper stock and is done in black ink. This is the same Jerry Garcia lineup that played so often at the Keystone Korner and recorded a fantastic live album there with this band. Very early Garcia/Saunders powerhouse collaboration. The poster measures 13 3/8" x 11", while the handbell measures 4 1/2" x 5 1/2". Both pieces are in Near Mint Minus condition, with only very light handling in both pieces and light edge wear at the top right of the poster. We haven't seen these in well over a decade.
