AUCTION - Grateful Dead - Melkweg Amsterdam - 1981 Handbill - Very Good
AUCTION - Grateful Dead - Melkweg Amsterdam - 1981 Handbill - Very Good
This extremely rare, Grateful Dead handbill up for auction is from the famous Amsterdam nightclub, the Melkweg (Milky Way). The Dead did two nights there on October 15 and 16, 1981. The shows were added to the bands’ European itinerary after Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir did a short acoustic set at the Melkweg on a day off and quickly determined to add the shows after their Germany tour commitments. These shows consisted of an acoustic and an electric set. The band famously played an ultra-rare "Hully Gully" one of the nights and a grand time was had by all! There is no printed poster for this show, although a hand-drawn poster from the club's front door exists, and is in this auction as well. Please take a look. The handbill itself is practically one-of-a-kind. This is the third one to come our way in over 30 years and it measures 8 3/8" x 13 1/4", approximately. The handbill is in very good condition, with handling, as it was peeled off a wall, with the ensuing residue on the reverse, a small tear at the upper right, as a result of having been removed from said wall. Don't wait for another one of these exceedingly scarce handbills to come around. Carpe Diem!
