AUCTION - Grateful Dead - 1967 Grand Opening Button - Kaleidoscope LA - Excellent

This very scarce promotional button is for three days of the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane, and Canned Heat playing the grand opening of the notable Los Angeles nightclub, The Kaleidoscope. Their catchphrase for the big event was "The Kaleidoscope is Turning On", which is printed around the edge of the button. All the Kaleidoscope posters were circular, and this button is very similar in design to the poster featured in the Art of Rock book on Page 279, Plate 3.77. Printed in hot pink to draw attention, the artwork isn't credited. Very cool Mandala, though. The button measures 2 1/2" in diameter. This quite rare piece for the opening of the Kaleidoscope Club in LA is in Excellent condition, with wear around the edge and a small surface scrape in the first "O" in "Kaleidoscope".
