AUCTION - FD-27 - Big Brother Janis - Howlin' Wolf - 1966 Unused Ticket - Near Mint

This is an opportunity to own a real rarity. On offer is nothing less than an unused Family Dog ticket from 1966! This is FD 27 in the Family Dog Series. Howlin' Wolf, with Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, played on September 23–24, 1966 at the Avalon Ballroom in SF, CA. The Family Dog, like most promoters at the time, printed stock-type tickets. These were plain and business-like and could be easily ordered from a printer. The tickets that match the poster image were to come early the next year (1967). The Family Dog had a policy of taking, tearing, and tossing these tickets. So much so, that exceedingly few survive. A rare artifact, by any measure. This Family Dog Howlin' Wolf at the Avalon Ballroom unused ticket measures 1 7/8" x 3 1/2". It is in absolutely incredible Near Mint condition. The consigner bought this piece from SF Rock Posters 20-plus years ago. It is still the only one we have ever seen.
