AUCTION - Com Co./Diggers - Kiss-In Demonstration - 1967 Handbill - San Francisco - Very Good
Offered for auction here is an unusual piece of San Francisco's 1960s history and lore. This is a handbill produced by the Communications Company, a group of printers affiliated with the Diggers, who often put our messages under the name Com Co. They kept busy in the late 60s, putting out lots of great material. They were an alternate information source for the counterculture. Here we have a flyer promoting a "Kiss-In " at the sentencing of a certain Mr. Cara on June 2nd, 1967. Mr. Cara was found guilty of "lewd and dissolute behavior in the public view". The demonstration was held at the Hall of Justice steps, naturally. The Kiss-In is the quintessential expression of the countercultural central tenet of free love. Protest and enjoy it! This handbill is printed on heavy stiff paper stock and measures 8 1/2" x 11". The piece is in Very Good condition, with tape stains at the bottom, an individual tape stain, and a pull at the lower left. The Kiss-In handbill is super rare and extra cool. A great slice of 1960s San Francisco counterculture.
